Welcome to the website of Grace and Compassion Benedictines, founded by Mary Garson in 1959. The Sisters follow the Rule written by St Benedict, who was born in the 5th century and founded the Benedictine Order.

AGAINST THE TIDE

To found a new religious community, at a time when many people question the value of religious life, takes considerable courage and goes against the tide! Yet the Grace & Compassion Benedictine Congregation, founded by Mother Mary Garson in 1959, continues to thrive and to care for those in need. In challenging times, we draw strength and hope from our Lord’s promise that “where two or three are gathered in my name, I am in the midst of them”.
